Viceroy cigarettes – changed packs and unchanged high quality

As mentioned, the Viceroy cigarettes were created in the United States of America in 1936 by B&W as the first cigarette in the world with a cork filter, which was supposed to guarantee less passage of harmful substances into the smoker’s lungs. The new brand was placed on the market at an average price for the time, a pack of Viceroy cigarettes cost as much as one from Raleigh (also a B&W brand), but more than a pack of Wings, presented on the market by B&W in 1929.

In 1952, with another innovation inherent in the Viceroy filter, namely its construction in cellulose acetate, B&W set a new standard for the industry. Among the most important types, Viceroy Filter King Viceroy cigarettes were launched in 1953, Viceroy Box and Lights Box Kings in 1990, Viceroy Ultra Lights Kings and Ultra Lights 100’s in 1992 and Viceroy Menthol in 2000.

In the 1970s, the Viceroy cigarettes brand was used as part of a B&W marketing test to see if it was possible to encourage children to become smokers. However, the experiment was never completed as it was closed early after the Federal Trade Commission learned of it during an investigation into the advertising methods used by tobacco companies.

What are Viceroy cigarettes? Viceroy is a brand of cigarettes made by Brown & Williamson, owned by British American Tobacco, and, since 2004, by Reynolds American Inc., a joint venture between the American division of British American Tobacco and the RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company. After the Brown & Williamson merger, this brand has been minimized, although it continues to be sold in markets where its demand is high, such as Romania, the Middle East, Turkey , Venezuela and Argentina. During the nineties, the packages of all types of Viceroy cigarettes underwent a restyling adopting a more contemporary style without however changing the brand logo. All Viceroy styles of the product mix a more contemporary packaging without a change of packages and cartons have been changed.
